A lion lunged at a trainer at the MGM Grand giving spectators and another trainer a fright. Watch the video footage of the attack and see a lioness try to stop the attack. Quite impressive!
We see it from time to time, a captive animal freaks out on it's trainers and sends a shock wave through the entertainment business. The truth is these animals are wild. As much as you want to keep them behind a cage or glass wall, they will eventually become unhinged.
The video footage catches the before, during and after of the attack. At the beginning, you see what would ordinarily be a lion yawning at an animal exhibit. One thing you do see is the the lion seems to stare longing back at the trainer standing at the wall. Almost like he's saying, 'Hmm, he might taste good.'
Then as the spectator pans the camera to the lioness playing with what looks like a ball, the attack ensues. The lion lunges at the trainer trying to grab hold of him. Another trainer tries to divert the lion's attention, but fails. Even the lioness jumps in to stop the altercation.
After the trainer was separated, he runs off into a safety zone. Another trainer keeps watch of the lion, but obviously can't control the massive beast. The lion keeps looking for the bitten trainer, but never finds him.
The trainer reportedly suffered a bite to the leg and received stitches. He's recovering and is eager to return to work.
Would you go back to work if the lion you cared for attacked you? Talk about tempting fate.
