An 88-year-old man who was the victim of an hour-long goat attack has died.

Vestal Davis of Colbert, in Madison County, died Saturday at Athens Regional Medical Center, one week after the attack, the Athens Banner-Herald reports.

"He became paralyzed from the injuries, and that just affected the rest of his body system," Coroner Michelle Cleveland told the newspaper. "He just couldn't fight that off and so he just slipped away."
