A man who was accused of hitting his baby mother with a board pleaded not guilty to the charge of assaulting a female when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate Court yesterday.
The accused, Gerald Reid told the court that the complainant is the mother of his children and they had a disagreement on July 15 which led the complainant to claim that he assaulted her.
Reid told the court that he received a call from the complainant on the day in question when she told him that his mother wanted to throw her out. When Reid arrived at the house, an argument developed between himself and the complainant and they exchanged harsh words but he did not hit her.
However, the complainant claimed that Reid had entered the house with a piece of board to hit her, she tried to avoid being hit but was unsuccessful and received a blow to her back.

The complainant also informed the court that she and Reid previously lived together but she moved out because he was abusive. She also pointed out that she now lives in the Liguanea area where her mother pays the rent for her accommodation because Reid does not offer sufficient financial support for his children.
Reid and the complainant were advised to communicate with a court-assigned probation officer and ordered to return to court on September 1.
