The son of a police sergeant is now in hospital under police guard after he was reportedly shot and injured and an illegal firearm allegedly taken from him during a police operation in St Ann yesterday.
Reports are that about 10:00 a.m., a police team was scheduled to carry out an operation in the Mansfield Heights community of the parish.
It is said that as the team approached the community better known as 'Faulklands' and a man pulled a gun and aimed at them.
The police reportedly took evasive action and opened fire, hitting the man, who, following investigations was found to be the son of a sergeant attached to the Trelawny police.
The weapon was seized and the man taken to hospital.
His name is being withheld pending further investigations.
