A man claimed that he broke into a house recently not to steal anything but to watch the television inside.
The accused, Wayne Thompson, was charged with house breaking with intent. He pleaded guilty when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday to answer to the charge.
Persons in court were amused by the tale when Thompson, 22, from a Rae Town address in Kingston, said that even though the residents of the house were unknown to him, he was interested in watching their television.
remanded
Thompson also told the court that he was gainfully employed for at least four years at a sponge factory and he wanted to avoid being sentenced to prison for his action.
When asked by Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey why she should reconsider sentencing him to prison, Thompson replied; "I'll be good", which attracted more laughter from the court.
Thompson was remanded in custody until June 30 when a probation officer should be assigned. He also had to submit his fingerprints to the police.
