A man believed to be in his early 20s had the shock of his life when the victims of his robbery attempt turned on him.
Witnesses told THE STAR that about 10:30 a.m., a man entered Leroy's Electronics store on Main Street in Mandeville, Manchester, and approached the cashier. He then pulled what appeared to be a gun from a bag and pointed it at her and demanded that she handed over the money in the cash register.
The surprised cashier was, however, resistive and attracted the attention of fellow workers. An employee said that during the commotion he saw an opportunity to tackle the gunman and wrestled him to the ground.
After a brief struggle he disarmed the alleged gunman and with the help of others held him until the police arrived.
The Mandeville police said the gun turned out to be fake and the man is now facing multiple charges. They, however, are withholding his identity as it is believed he is from St Mary where he may be wanted for similar offences.
