POLICE today seized two more illegal weapons and a quantity of ammunition in a church in West Kingston yesterday.

The find took place the same day Police Commissioner Owen Ellington toured sections of Tivoli Gardens and Denham Town, communities where gunmen a week earlier engaged members of the security forces in a deadly three day shootout which claimed the lives of 76 persons including three security officials.

At about 10:00 am police were carrying out an operation in sections of Regent Street when they found two M16 rifles and more than 1,000 rounds of ammunition, Steve Brown, head of the Constabulary Communication Network (CCN) told the Observer.

No one was arrested in connection with the seizure.

Police said the guns are believed to be part of the illegal weapons used by gunmen loyal to Christopher Dudus Coke who launched an attack against the police on Sunday May 23.

So far 49 guns have been recovered from the West Kingston area since last operation. Cops on Monday recovered 7 guns in Tivoli Gardens.
