Hitmaker aims to 'hit' mainstream

Producer, writer, engineer and artiste, 25-year-old Kedon Whyte, more popularly known as Hitmaker, describes himself as being all about 'fun and music.'

Starting his music career at just 16 years old, Whyte hails from Hughenden in Kingston. A past student of the Clan Carthy and Donald Quarrie high schools, Hitmaker's style, lyrics and flow can be compared to the likes of new-era deejays such as Aidonia, Busy Signal, Vybz Kartel, and Mavado.

Songwriting is what he does best, especially when he is not in the studio or busy with other areas of music.

Whyte, who is a qualified studio engineer, has worked with many well-known top acts in the reggae-dancehall industry such as Konshens, Bramma, Elephant Man and Delly Ranx.

He did a one-year crash course in the performing arts at the Excelsior Community College after which, he recorded c**k Up Is a Ten for the UIM/Digital One label for Richard Roache. However, it was not until he did Pray For Me in March of this year on his own HitmakerMuzik label that producers and radio disc jocks began to show their support.

The music industry has proven to be challenging for the young musician but he says: "My first love is recording and being an artiste. I am a fan of music, so I know what people like and as such I try to make music that I like and people around me can relate to, therefore, I focus on getting the right melody and mix of lyrics out there to please them."

He is back again with his latest single Tell Yuh Bout Life which has been getting rotation on the radio. He also has a single on Demarco's Premium rhythm called Lover and Friend and Nuh Fren Part 2 on his own label.

Recently, he began working on a mix CD and has been voicing for various producers, because, "summer is coming and there's a need for that hot flavour".

As it relates to his future, Hitmaker has his sights set on making it big.

"All I'm aiming for is more good and positive music so that I can get on the Billboard charts. I want to make it mainstream both as a producer and as an artiste," he says.
