POLICE are calling on residents of Tivoli Gardens and Denham Town in West Kingston to dismantle barricades and for lawyers of area don Christopher 'Dudus' to surrender their client.

Residents have erected at the main entry points and across roads in an apparent move to protect Dudus, believed to still be in the community, whom the United States wants extradited on gun and drug trafficking charges.

Police are waiting to execute a warrant for his arrest and want lawyers retained by Dudus to take their client to the nearest police station to allow the extradition warrant to be executed.

"The Police are informing these residents that it is a breach of the law to erect barricades which impede the movement of the security forces during the lawful performance of their duties," said a statement from the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) this morning.

Residents are also being asked to call police if they need assistance and to report any acts of criminality.

"Law abiding citizens have nothing to fear from the presence of the security forces as the police intend to conduct our operations in a professional manner in accordance with the law and in the interest of all concerned."

Such a call is unlikely to be heeded as yesterday residents protested in their hundreds in support of their don and against claims that they were being held hostage in the community and their cellphones confiscated by gunmen.

Persons can call Police Control at 119 or senior duty officers at 927-3168 and 946-1248 to report any concerns or any information coming to their notice.
