Three illegal firearms were seized in St Catherine and St Ann and five people arrested between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

The identities of the persons arrested are being withheld pending further investigations.

About 8 a.m., a silver Smith and Wesson .38 revolver was handed over to police at Happy Mews, Alexandria, St Ann. No one was arrested.

About three hours later, a Remington shotgun and two 12 gauge cartridges were found at Wallen Lane, Portmore, St Catherine. Four persons have since been arrested.

In another incident, also in St Catherine, a man was arrested about 4:30 p.m. when he was found with a chrome Smith and Wesson pistol at Bell Heights, Gordon Pen.

Investigations are being carried out by detectives from the St Ann and St Catherine North and South Divisions, respectively.
