Shoot out forces basic school to close

Classes at the Lampard Basic School near Frankfield in Clarendon have been suspended until Monday following a shooting which occurred Wednesday morning in the vicinity of the institution.

No students turned up on Thursday morning as they were advised by administrators not to return until next week.

School officials are hoping the time away from the school will help to relieve the fear from the minds of the students.

RJR News understands that about 9 o'clock Wednesday morning, a group of other boys from an adjoining community in Frankfield went to Lampard in search of a teenage boy to retrieve an illegal gun.

It is said that the teenage boy who was armed spotted the group and opened fire.

This reportedly occurred in the vicinity of the Basic School.

Pandemonium broke amongst teachers and students at the school, after they heard the explosions.

Teachers' attempts to calm the frightened children proved futile and so parents were called.

The teenaged boy managed to scare off the group of boys who fled the area.

He too escaped.

People in the town of Frankfield expressed shock and horror that such an incident could occur in the community just days after six year-old Evon Spencer was found murdered at his home.
