Head of police in cigarette raid gets death threat

SUPERINTENDENT Fitz Bailey, head of the elite Organised Crime Investigation Division (OCID), which this week seized millions of dollars' worth of illicit cigarettes, has received death threats, a reliable police source confirmed last night.

"Police are at this time still carrying out their checks into the matter, therefore, not much detail can be disclosed," a highly-placed source told the Observer, while confirming the report.

While it was unclear whether the threats were related to the big cigarette bust, a police source said they were issued against the OCID boss two days after police and the Customs Enforcement Team raided a house in Beverly Hills, Kingston where they seized several boxes of cigarettes valued at $12.9 million, millions of dollars in local and foreign currency and expensive liquor.

Two men -- Jason Kong, 50, and Jun Seng Xhang, 30 -- who were arrested in connection with the seizures are expected to appear before the court today.

They have been charged with breaches of the Customs Regulations Act, and breaches of the Trademark Act.
