A 50-year-old man believed to be of unsound mind was seriously injured after he was beaten by residents of the New Market district in St Elizabeth on Sunday.
Though the incident occurred on Sunday, an official report was only made to the police yesterday.
Reports, according to the police, are that 8 a.m. on Sunday, the man was accused of going to the house of a resident of the community and destroying some clothes belonging to the occupants. The residents then reportedly set upon the man, beating him severely, causing injuries to his head, hands and feet.
He was taken to the Black River Hospital, but was later transferred to the Kingston Public Hospital. His condition is said to be serious.
