Police still militant as ultimatum expires

Image Rank and file members of the Police Force are said to be in a militant mood ahead of Friday afternoon's expiration of a 72-hour ultimatum served on the Government.

The Police Federation has given the Ministry of Finance until 5 o'clock to indicate when outstanding wages owed to its members will be paid.

It is not yet known what action will be taken by police personnel if there is no positive response from the Ministry.

Despite an appeal Thursday by Finance Minister Audley Shaw for public sector workers to be reasonable with their wage demands on the cash-strapped Government, Chairman of the Federation Sergeant Raymond Wilson says the ultimatum still stands.

The Federation had given the Golding administration until last week to say if it would honour outstanding wage and fringe benefits for the 2008 to 2010 contract period.

The deadline expired on March 31 and the Federation says the response sent by the Government was unacceptable as it failed to give a payment schedule.
