Dancehall star Bounty Killer will have to remain behind bars for another week.
Bounty Killer whose real name is Rodney Price was denied bail by Senior Magistrate Judith Pusey when he appeared before the Corporate Area Criminal Court on Wednesday.
The deejay is accused of physically assaulting his girlfriend during a domestic dispute.
The 38-year old artiste was arrested on Monday at his East Avenue Apartment in St. Andrew on allegations that he assaulted Kadeen Baker during a domestic dispute.
It is reported that on March 25, Kadeen Baker told Bounty Killa, who she had a three year relationship with, that the romance was over as she had found a new boyfriend. The deejay reacted badly to the news and reportedly attacked the woman.
She reported the matter to the Constant Spring Police Station and following investigations a warrant was issued for the deejay's arrest. It is reported that while the police were processing the entertainer on a charge of assault occasioning bodily harm, he called Ms. Baker and threatened her life in the presence of the cops.
In court on Wednesday, investigator told Senior Magistrate Pusey that Ms Baker's friends and relatives have been pressing her not to proceed with the case against the artiste.
They told the court that because of the pressure, the complainant had expressed a reluctance to sign a statement regarding an alleged threat on her life by deejay.
This did not sit well with Senior Magistrate Pusey who questioned Ms. Baker about the claims.
She appeared to have second thoughts about the case and told the magistrate that that was the first time that she was hit by the artiste in their three year relationship.
Ms Pusey warned the complainant that she should not waste the time of the police or the court if she is backing out of the case.
Mr. Pryce's attorney, Linda Wright, told the Senior Magistrate Pusey that her client disputes the allegations and that he is prepared to go to trial. Magistrate shows no mercy
However, the senior magistrate was not moved by the application and rejected the bail application. She said her decision is based on the fact that Bounty Killer has a case in the Gun Court for assault and illegal possession of a firearm.
She also noted that it was while he was out on bail on that matter that he is alleged to have committed this case of assault.
The magistrate also pointed to other cases in which the artiste was accused of physically assaulting his girlfriends. Ms Pusey said she was also disturbed over the allegation that he threatened the complainant while in the precincts of a police station.
She was also critical of Bounty Killer's alleged actions and declared that she was not swayed by his public persona.
