THE police have arrested five men, including a senior citizen and a Kingston-based businessman for their alleged involvement in several sex crimes committed in the Corporate Area over the past month.
The men were picked up during police operations on the weekend.
"The men were held in separate incidents and are to be questioned over the next few days," Herfa Beckford, head of the Centre for the Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse (CISOCA) told the Observer yesterday.
The names of the suspects were being withheld, pending further investigations.
Beckford, however, disclosed that one of the accused is a 58-year-old Kingston resident.
"In that case the accused went to a businessplace in Kingston where he saw the minor and invited her to his house," she said.
She said while at his house he allegedly attempted to sexually assault the young girl.
The victim made a report to the police on Sunday and the man was later arrested.
"He is to be questioned and, if necessary, charges laid against him," Beckford said.
She said that the operations that led to the apprehension of the men was part of CISOCA's ongoing drive to rid the streets of sex offenders.
