Eclipse Pool Party soars despite lull

A two-segment fashion show sponsored by Cooyah and a dismal 20-minute music selection from DJ Bambino had almost spoiled an evening of excitement when the 'Rebirth' of Eclipse Pool Party took place last Saturday night at Rockfort Mineral Bath in east Kingston.

DJ Nico gave the early patrons a special musical treat, finishing off his set with some of the older dance songs such as Elephant Man's Pon Di RiverHigher Level and QQ's Rum Ram.

Around 2:30 a.m. Rohan Gunter, former Comedy Buss winner and promoter, got his party under way and it endured only two dull moments. First, was a rather confused set by Bambino, who went from hip hop to reggae, dancehall and then rock in the space of 20 minutes, but more important, he lacked precision.

DJ Nico was going very well and had the crowd buzzing to the sultry sound of Nadine Sutherland on I Will Do Anything. However, Nico's set came to an end and the first segment of the Cooyah fashion show began.

It would have been great if the organisers had merged both segments, as the second was drawn-out and dull as most of the models wore the same outfits they did in the first segment.

ZJ Ice introduced himself with a string of 'money anthem' songs, with Rick Ross' Hustlin' receiving the most favourable response. Just minutes later, ZJ Ice made the women lose their composure with a string of Vybz Kartel songs, such as Dandy Shandy and Get Wild.

Ice even teased the women further when he played Pamputae's Good Good and Lady Saw's Backshot. But he made a hurried exit leaving the patrons wanting more. Cash Flow's DJ Neil was called to duty right after the final fashion segment, and he brought a new energy to the party, only for Arif Cooper to close off brilliantly.

Cooper got major forwards throughout his set, especially when he played the much-anticipated Come Into My Room, featuring Mavado and Stacious.
