A strong police and military patrol is now in the Jacques Road community off Mountain View in St Andrew following heavy gunfire this morning.

The police say explosions were heard in the community early this morning.

The Mountain View Police could not provide details on the cause for the latest upsurge in violence.

However, our news centre has received reports that a man who was a leading figure in the community was killed in the area.

The police say security forces have mounted an operation to take control of the situation.

We will have more information on this developing situation in subsequent newscasts.
