The government has disclosed that it will cost taxpayers $9 million per week to house the 62 Haitians who landed on Jamaicas shores on Tuesday morning.
The minister with responsibility for information, Daryl Vaz told a press conference at Jamaica House this morning that attempts are now being made to contact the authorities in Haiti to ensure they are received on their return.
Meanwhile, Mr. Vaz says arrangements have been made to accommodate the Haitians at the Port Antonio Seventh Day Adventist Church for the next two weeks.
Mr. Vaz says funds will also be allocated to renovate a government structure to house them.
Three members of the group have been identified as prisoners and are in police custody.
