As commuters absorb the news that they will have to dig deeper into their pockets to travel on Jamaica Urban Transit Company buses they could be hit with another hike in the cost of public transportation.
The Jamaica Association of Transport Owners and Operators (JATOO) which has been grumbling that the fare adjustment granted by the government last year has been eroded by inflation is signalling that it will be requesting another change to the fare table.
This was disclosed Tuesday night by Louis Barton, JATOO President.
Mr. Barton said it has not yet been decided when the request for new taxi fares will be made but he disclosed that it will be soon:
"Transport operators, even route taxi operators are feeling the crunch now and even though we're not going to get an increase come April 1, we are feeling the crunch and will ask for an increase very soon," he said.
