Commuters could hear Tuesday how much more they will have to pay for bus fares.
On Monday, Cabinet signed off on the new fare table for the state-run Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) and Mike Henry, Transport Minister says he might make an announcement Tuesday afternoon.
When contacted Monday night, Mr. Henry said he was contemplating whether to make the new fares public today but had not made a final decision on the matter.
Since last week, Cabinet has been mulling over a proposal to hike the cost of travelling on JUTC buses.
The Government has until next Thursday April 1 to implement the new fares.
The proposed increase forms part of the Stand-by Loan Agreement with the International Monetary Fund for the Government to drastically reduce its subsidy to the bus company.
Earlier this month, the Transport Minister dismissed reports that commuters will have to pay in excess of $100 to ride on JUTC buses.
Mr. Henry insisted that a final decision had not been made on the matter as the issue had not been discussed by Cabinet.
