A Portland man is now in custody for chopping another man during a fracas over a woman at Stony Hill district in the parish yesterday.
In custody is an elderly man of the Stony Hill community, whose name has been withheld by the police. The man is expected to be charged later today as additional statements are still being collected.
The name of the injured man, who is hospitalised, has not yet been released by the police.
The police said thatshortly before 10 p.m. the elderly man received news that his ex-girlfriend, who is also motherto two of his children, was entertaining a man at her house, which is in close proximity to his.
The police allege that the man first attacked the woman inside her yard with a knife, but she managed to escape.
He is alleged to have then gone inside the house where the other man was stabbed several times all over his body.
Screams for help was heard by neighbours, who reportedly ran to the assistance of the woman, and the man was found lying on the floor in *lo**.
The attacker reportedly fled the scene, but was later arrested by the police, while the wounded man was rushed to the Port Antonio Hospital, where he was admitted in a critical but stable condition.
