A man accused of wounding his mentally challenged aunt after she damaged a fowl coop and set his chickens free, appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Thursday.
The accused, who was brought before Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey, told the court that his aunt, has a mental condition and causes a lot of contention at their home. He told the court that on the day in question, his aunt was beating a drum and disturbing the peace. He said he spoke to her about it and they had an argument.
The accused said he left the yard and when he returned, he saw the coop destroyed and the fowls running loose. He said he confronted her, pushed her and she fell, injuring herself.
The complainant tried to tell the court her story, but it soon became obvious that her mind was full of years of stories that she wanted to tell. She rambled on and on, sometimes interjecting points relevant to the case, and at other times, talked about far-fetched ideas and situations.
Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey told the accused that he needs to take care of his aunt, especially since it was obvious that she was ill. She said the actions of the aunt could not be used against her as she was not in her right mind.
The court made plans for the complainant to be taken to a mental institution and the matter was dismissed.
