A prisoner attacked his cellmate with a knife for snoring too loudly, police said today (Tues).

A prisoner attacked his cellmate with a knife for snoring too loudly, police said today (Tues).

The 19-year-old attacked his 35-year-old cellmate at a prison in Hirtenberg in Lower Austrias Baden district with a knife from prison cutlery.

He then alerted guards through the signaling system and went back to bed.

The victim was taken to Vienna General Hospital (AKH), where he underwent emergency surgery. Doctors said yesterday evening the man was no longer in danger of death and had been moved out of intensive care.

The assailant who was to have been released this April after having been convicted of robbery, will now spend even more time in prison.
