Four persons were shot, two fatally by gunmen in separate incidents at Windsor Lodge, and Wagon Wheel, in Rosehall both in St James on Saturday night.
Dead are Leroy Duhaney, 53, of Lilliput and Steadman Morant, 42, while injured are two men, aged 42 and 21, both of Somerton, St James.
Police said about 11:30 p.m., Morant was among a group of people at Windsor Lodge playing cards and dominoes when a Nissan motor car drove up. Two gunmen alighted and ordered the group to lie face down on the ground before robbing them of cash and cellular phones.
Upon leaving, the gunmen shot Morant, who died on the spot. Two other men were injured and admitted to hospital in serious but stable condition.
In a bid to leave the community the driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed. He was subsequently taken into custody, while the others escaped.
In the second incident, about 10 minutes later, Duhaney was closing his shop at Wagon Wheel when he was surprised by three gunmen who robbed him of more than $70,000 cash and $10,000 worth of phone cards. Duhaney used a machete to chop one of his attackers but was overpowered, shot and chopped several times. He died on the spot.
