A gun salute being held for a slain resident of the Flanker community in St James, took a turn for the worse on Sunday, when a shot reportedly tore off a section of a lightpole, sending it tumbling into a crowd and badly injuring one woman.
Reports reaching THE STAR are that on Sunday night, some residents from the Red Dirt area of Flanker, gathered to pay tribute to 26-year-old Jermaine Spence, otherwise called 'Ants Man' and 'Randy Spence', who was killed by the police on January 14.
It is alleged that the gun salute which was being carried out in Spence's honour, quickly descended into chaos when a bullet, tore off a section of a lightpole, causing it to fall into the nearby crowd. It is reported that the pole fell onto the leg of a woman who was rushed to the hospital. THE STAR was told that her leg was severely damaged and doctors had to conduct emergency surgery. When contacted, the Montego Bay Police said they had no knowledge of the incident. However, a source close to the injured woman confirmed the incident and revealed that the woman is still in hospital.
