Women fight for dress at party - At least six injured in brawl

Several persons had to seek medical attention last Wednesday after one woman accused another of stealing her dress during a birthday party in Vineyard Town, east Kingston.

The police are also investigating the incident in which six persons including the 'birthday girl' and one man who tried to squash the fight received injuries and had to seek medical attention.

According to reports, the party was in full swing in a yard in the community some time around midnight when things took a violent turn.

"Everybody did a enjoy themselves and out a nowhere di girl dem just kick off," Andre McIntosh, a resident said.

One woman is said to have approached another and demanded that her clothes be returned, claiming it was stolen off her clothes line two days earlier.

An argument developed and friends of both women intervened, setting the scene for what became a wild brawl. Later dozens of persons were sent scampering for cover as the warring females hurled bottles and stones at each other and knocked fists.

As the birthday girl intervened, with hopes of ending the fight, she was hit with a liquor bottle in the head, knocking her to the ground and ending all hopes she had of continuing the celebrations.

Another man who also tried to intervene was also hit with a bottle.

"Yu see how life funny, di two people dem a try squash di vibes and get lick wid bottle," McIntosh said.

When the assault had ended the woman who was accused of stealing the clothes was seen running from the yard with her accuser close behind.

Their friends however reportedly stayed behind and were still locked in heated arguments while those who were injured left to seek medical attention.

When THE STAR contacted the Kingston east police, a corporal said that they were aware of the incident and would be looking to speak with the two women at the centre of the fracas by the end of this week.

"What you heard is pretty much the same thing we heard but we are going to speak to the women hopefully by the end of the week ... After that we may just lay some charges," the corporal said.
