Gay Rights Groups Put Grammy Pressure On Buju Banton

As if things could get any worse for dancehall / reggae artiste Buju Banton who is currently in jail in Florida facing Federal drug charges, just in time for Sundays Grammy Awards, two U.S.

gay rights groups (the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) and the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center) that are angry about his Reggae Grammy nomination for Rasta Got Soul, have taken out a full-page ad in the popular Hollywood show business paper Daily Variety. In the ad, they urge Grammy organizers to use Sundays televised Grammy Awards ceremony to denounce music that promotes or celebrates violence against any group of people. The ad makes specific reference to Banton as someone who has promoted the murder of gay people throughout his career.
