I recorded this at one of the weirdest parties I ever played at. My friend calls me and says he is having a Cook out and I should bring my wife and some music is all Jamaican. It supposed to start at 4pm and we must come early. But you know is not in our nature to be on time. So we show up 5pm and nobody is there. So we go down the road and buy some Chinesse and was going to watch a movie when the phone ring. So my friend sey, (screw the grammar) whey yuh dey. A sey de place lock up nobody deh dey. Him sey dem deh dere long time a wait. ( yeah every Yardie hear diss b4) So we go back and set up the sound, I set up my cd player dem separate from his Turntable. So 7pm come now and my wife notice that is bear man deh dere. So I send her go watch a movie and sey I would ketch a ride wid im lata. So im sey gwaan play some Disco so I would look up and see no woman dem at all. Den 2 show up and see all dese man and leave. So I take a break from the sound and see about 7 groups of about 3 or 4 guys runnin different boat. One group doing fish another manish wata, a nex one roast corn, nex one some BBQ chicken and Goat. So bout 10pm now about 10 man crowd around the set and Mike ( sorry I put yuh name on the net) start playing some Jerry Butler and Percy Sledge. The rest of the man dem was playing dominoes. But I found weird was that Jamaican s supposed to be the most homophobic society on the planet but here we were at an all man party playing and singing 60s and 70s slow jams some drunk some high or both. It was my turn again about 1am so I just started playing some 60s and early 70s Reggae and rocksteady dubs until about 3am. I will be dipped they loved it. It sound like a cassette with the NR turned off because I had to take my record feed off his Radio shack mixer. But it has a nice mellow vibe. Enjoy a nice walk down memory lane.
Mi affi listen dis...kool background story. I never undastand why man go a dance w/o dem girl/wife and den wonda why nuh woman nuh deh a di dance/party.
