A man charged with attempted murder after he allegedly stabbed his ex-girlfriend repeatedly and ran her over with his car, appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday.
The accused man is Cornel Ewart, 45, self-employed of a Kingston 12 address.
The allegations are that on August 1 about 11 am, the accused was taking the complainant to work. When she arrived at her location and was attempting to leave the car, it is alleged that Ewart pulled a knife and used it to stab the complainant.
She managed to leave the car but was chased by the accused who drove behind her and allegedly used his car to hit her down, before crashing into a fence. He then reportedly alighted from the car and continued to stab the complainant.
The complainant reportedly managed to run onto a nearby compound but was chased by the accused who threw her into his vehicle and drove off. The police were alerted by witnesses and the accused man's car was seen along Tucker Avenue off Mountain View Avenue. The complainant was taken to the hospital where she underwent surgery and was admitted in serious condition. It is alleged that Ewart was jealous because the complainant had moved on with her life.
When the matter was brought before the court, a bail application made on Ewart's behalf was denied. He was remanded until October 16 when the matter will be mentioned again.
