BOBBY BROWN has blasted ex-wife WHITNEY HOUSTON'S claims he verbally abused her during their turbulent 14-year marriage.

The singer believes they "corrupted each other", insisting he never "hurt" the How Will I Know star.

According to Whitney - in a candid two-part TV interview with OPRAH WINFREY - she suffered years of emotional torment prior to their 2007 divorce.

She said: "Emotionally he was abusive. The words he spoke were horrifying.

"And there were times he would smash things in the home."

But Brown is adamant they were both to blame for their troubled union.

He told a VH1 Behind The Music special last night: "I think we corrupted each other.

"I don't think she hurt me or I hurt her.

"I just think we had a 14-year marriage that had its ups and downs and not many people understood it."

Speaking about his own reasons for turning to cocaine, he said: "I used an awful lot and I can't take that back. It's a powerful drug.

"I think I was bored. I had just gotten married and things weren't right. Unfortunately, I turned to alcohol and drugs."

However, Brown vows he won't become embroiled in a public war of words with Whitney over her Oprah interview.

He added: "If there's something that she says that is untrue or disrespectful then I'll deal with that with her."
