Dancehall artiste Flippa Mafia is now poised to become Jamaica's next successful crossover artiste, as he has done an official collaboration with United States rappers Lil' Wayne and Ra Diggs.
In the song, titled '*lo** Money', Flippa does the intro, several ad libs within the song and a 16 bar verse.
When contacted by THE STAR, Flippa said the collaboration is a real one and not a 'refix' of Lil' Wayne's song. He said it was done last week.
"Mi just deh home and get a phone call. Dem seh dem a search fi a Jamaican artiste fi put pon it. Dem seh dem ago send mi di track and mi neva hesitate 'cause that a mi dream come tru. When mi voice my part, mi send it back to them. Dem seh dem like it," Flippa said, while noting that he did not actually meet the two other artistes
He said someone recommended him based on his style and the things he sings about, which is mostly money and flossing.
idolises
This song is no different, as it was all about money. In the song, he deejays: "Everywhere we go, a we money a flock/ Money a run me down, and a seh spend me Flippa/ Mi all a hide from money, money a find me/ Look pon mi ice dem, they are so shiny/ Mi nah stop hustle, 'cause hustler that is me/ Weigh money by the stock, mi have the streets lock."
Flippa said he feels good about the collaboration with Lil Wayne, who he idolises. However, he said serious promotion of the song is needed for it to make an impact on his career.
"If them do good promotion, it will do good. If me get that push, there is no turning back. Mi know mi have a good team. Mi have mi own style and image," Flippa told THE STAR, while noting that he has already been contacted to do shows with Lil' Wayne and Ra Diggs in California.
But there are other things on Flippa's plate, as he is fully booked for the US Labour Day weekend.
He is also preparing for his show, Summer Philly Fest on September 7 in Philadelphia. "Elephant Man back out but I don't know why," he said chuckling. Other artistes on the show include Beenie Man, Lady Saw, Assassin, Ding Dong and Tony Matterhorn.
Flippa said he will also release another song called Extra Extra, which he promises will ignite some controversy.
