Three new cases of the deadly Influenza A (H1N1) virus, popularly called swine flu, were found in the island earlier this week. These cases were discovered in the parishes of St Mary and St James, bringing to 10 the number of instances in the country.
In a release from the ministry of health, it was stated that the new cases were identified on Tuesday. Like the previous instances mentioned by the ministry, the three persons, two of whom are from St Mary, had travelled to New York in the United States.
The ministry said its health team has already interviewed, examined and taken samples from immediate contacts, and has sent those samples to the laboratory for testing. No deaths have been recorded from the 10 cases of the virus present in the island.
Persons are being reminded to contact their doctor, nearest health centre or hospital if they have flu-like symptoms, take the medication recommended by their health care provider, and remain at home, as advised by the public health teams.
