Police were kept busy yesterday after the attempted robbery at the Empire Supermarket in Lane Plaza Liguanea, St Andrew, and the killing of an unidentified man along Slipe Road, a few hours later.
Police say about 3:45 p.m., three men went into the super-market and demanded money. A licensed firearm holder challenged them, killing one. His cronies, one of whom was dressed in khaki clothing, escaped. The police retrieved a 9mm pistol from the body of the dead man who is yet to be identified.
Scores of persons who visited the scene demanded their own brand of justice. "Bwoy, him can rob nobody else. Him just try too hard and dead. Dem must work man, dem need fi work," remarked Milderd Maise.
Other persons told THE STAR that the area has been plagued by robbers in recent times and it is hoped that the killing of this man will put a stop to the problem.
Meanwhile, police are still searching for the two men who escaped reportedly on a motorcycle. Up to late evening, a strong police presence was still in the area.
It was while there that police were alerted to the Slipe Road killing. Reports are that the man was walking along the road when two men approached him and pulled a handgun. He ran a short distance but was chased and shot by his attackers. He died on the spot.
