Jamaican sprint sensation Usain Bolt has ruled out chasing an individual treble at the London Olympics in 2012.
Speaking on Tuesday, the 22-year old double Olympic sprint champion dismissed any possibility he would attempt the 100 metres, 200 metres and 400 metres.
"I never actually said that I could run three events, because that's a lot of load and I really doubt whether I can do that," Bolt told reporters at the launch of his Racers Track Club.
"I don't think that I could do that at one track meet, so somebody got it wrong along the line. I may be doing 100 and 200, or 200 and 400, but not all three."
alter timetable
Bolt's comments ended swirling speculation that the world double record holder would attempt the three events, in an attempt to add the quarter-mile to his already impressive treasure trove.
It had been suggested earlier this week that Olympic officials would consider altering the timetable to allow the Jamaican to chase a 100m, 200m and 400m hat-trick.
In fact, Nick Davies, IAAF communications director, had summed up the athletic body's view on the matter, when he was quoted as saying.
"If Usain continues to do amazing things, is super motivated, we'd be insane not to consider it."
promising
Bolt trains under the guidance of his coach Glen Mills at the Kingston-based track club, which also boasts the likes of promising young 100m sprinter Yohan Blake, and Olympians Marvin Anderson, Daniel Bailey of Antigua and Emmanuel Calendar of Trinidad and Tobago.
However, the club has recently attracted several athletes from outside the Caribbean and as far away as Africa. The sprint star said he saw this as a positive.
"I know a few of them come prepared every day to win," Bolt said.
"Some are here because of me, but they are targeting me and want to beat me, which is something that I welcome and I look forward to them coming here."
