The upscale community of Jacks Hill, St Andrew, was rocked with the attempted abduction of a businessman by three gunmen, who later engaged the police in a running gun battle. When the dust cleared, one of the gunmen lay dead and another captured.
Residents who spoke with The Gleaner said shortly after 10 a.m. the gunmen, who were travelling in a Toyota Corolla motor car, drove to the rear of the businessman's house. The police were alerted and responded promptly enough to engage the men in a gunfight.
Backup called
Reinforcements were called for and within minutes Hyperion Avenue, where the shoot-out ended, was crawling with police personnel.
The police also took into custody a household helper who was employed to one of the residents in the area. There are allegations that the attempted abduction was supposed to have taken place at least a week ago.
The Gleaner understands that the police learnt of the plot and put measures in place.
