Four men were fatally shot and a policeman shot and injured during an alleged gun battle with the police at Camp View, Kintyre, Kingston 6, yesterday.
Three illegal firearms were reportedly seized during the incident.
Reports from the Constabulary Communication Network are that about 4 a.m. the police were alerted and informed that men had been seen with high-powered weapons at a premises at Camp View.
The police responded and on their arrival, it is reported that a man who was seen at the front,opened gunfire and was quickly joined by others who were inside a house.
The fire was returned and the men ran.
Following a search, three men were found suffering from gunshot wounds. A member of the police team was also reportedly shot and injured.
Three illegal weapons, an AK-47 assault rifle with 26 rounds of ammunition, a Sig Sauer .40 pistol, and a .45 pistol with three rounds of ammunition, were reportedly taken from the men.
A magazine containing 13 9mm cartridges, army fatigues, gun-cleaning and repair equipment and a chillum pipe were also found inside the house.
The injured men were taken to the University Hospital where the policeman was treated and released. The other men died. A fourth man was found about 4 p.m. on the Gordon Town Road wrapped in a sheet.
Up to press time last night, the identities of the men had not been established.
