It's been a while since the music industry has seen or heard anything from deejay Frisco Kid, aka Ancient Monarchy. But come this Saturday, at the Jamalco Sports Club at Reggae Meets Rocksteady and Dancehall, Frisco Kid plans to show Jamaica that he is back.
Born Steve Wray in west Kingston, Frisco Kid became known for songs such as Big Speech, on the Pepper Seed rhythm; Lion Paw, Round Here, Tell Me Why, Pop Pop Off and other hits. Years passed, however, and nothing more was heard from the artiste. When THE STAR spoke with him recently, he discussed his absence and his return.
rebuild your energy
"Everything takes a little time out now and again, rebuild your energy, full joy the work yuh put in. Yuh haffi tek out a little time for the family and yourself," he said.
Currently, the artiste is working on his next album with Big Ship's Stephen 'Di Genius' McGregor and has already voiced eight tracks for the producer, including the soon-to-be-released Get in Spirit. According to Frisco Kid, the vibes has been "crazy" and working with McGregor has been great. He said, "The vibes real - it remind me of back in the days working wid Dave Kelly, that energy and chemistry, real musician, real people who know real music, which is even easier for you the artiste to work."
Frisco Kid said he is more than confident he can make a comeback. "I've been doing it ova di years, touch di scene from 1992 and had the hits come up in the '90s. Cool out '99 and come back wid Round Here, Lion Paw. Cool off another year then come back wid Tell Me Why. Break again and come back with Look What Dem Done. Mi still a tour, still a do mi ting.
