For the past few days the streets have been buzzing about the newly renamed Portmore Awards and the controversy surrounding it.
The award show which is the brainchild of popular Jamaican emcee turn artiste/producer Nuffy has been officially renamed the Gaza Awards.
Only days ago 876radio.com caught up the very vocal emcee and posed the question to him about why the name change, in his usual jovial mood Nuffy chuckled before responding.
"Well is a Portmore show and if you check it the whole a Portmore a seh Gaza so mi just decide seh mi ago rename it the 'Gaza Awards, is not like mi a seh a only Gaza artiste and Portmore people alone ago get award a still everybody thing".
Knowing the state of dancehall and the rivalry that exist between several camps and the Portmore Empire which has coined the name to represent their neck of the woods. Do you expect support from the wider dancehall community and especially the Alliance camp led by the Warlord Bounty Killer?
"When yuh seh Gaza is Portmore, so it nuh mek sense talking about other people or things, yes we going to have other people on the show you can expect to see Romain Virgo, D'Angel, Queen Ifrica, Tarrus Riley, Merciless and many others. This is not about division is about entertainment so people should not mek the name trouble dem because is music we seh..... good" He added.
The award show is slated to unfold on July 11th at the Caymanas Park Football Field in Portmore, St. Catherine.
