Debate over $5,000 note

There are mixed reactions this afternoon following the announcement by the Central Bank that a new $5,000 note is coming.

The note, which the BOJ says will carry high security features, will be introduced in September.

In a release the Central Bank said BOJ Governor Derick Latibeaudiere will officially launch the new $5,000 next Monday.

The $5,000 note will bear the portrait of the late former Prime Minister, Hugh Lawson Shearer.

The BOJ said during Mondays launch, a proof note will be presented to Dr Denise Eldemire Shearer the widow of the late former Prime Minister.

However, an overwhelming majority of members of the public are against the introduction of a new $5,000 bill.
