Blakk Rasta is a Reggae artist and radio DJ in Accra, Ghana. His song "Barack Obama" became a hit and he was subsequently nominated for a GMA (Ghana Music Award) but the hit song was dropped from one of the categories soon after the nominations were announced. Speculations are that the song was too political and might offend the powers that be.
Blakk Rasta took his grievance with the GMA's to the airwaves on his radio show at Hitz FM "Taxi Driver" and blasted them for disqualifying the song. Soon after Blakk Rasta offered an apology that is perceived as not remorseful but rather said to please the radio station/his employers, he apologized for using Hitz FM to express his anger.
According to sources"the "Barak Obama" hit song was not meant for Ghana's political environment and as such that song can not be the popular song of the year 2008, when compared to songs such as Philipa Barfi's song "Go Go High" and Praye's "Angelina".
