Entertainer Michael Benjamin, 34, otherwise called Risto Benji, has been charged with robbery with aggravation involving a cellphone.

The deejay, who resides at Unity Drive in Kingston, is said to have committed the offence against a woman.

The Spanish Town police told THE WEEKEND STAR that on Tuesday about 10 a.m., a woman was conducting a transaction at the Western Union in Sagicor Shopping Centre in Spanish Town, St Catherine.

The police say as she walked out, a man approached her and brandished a knife. She was robbed of her cellphone valued at $4,000.

The matter was reported to the police and following investigations, Risto Benji was pointed out by the complainant. He was taken into custody and charged. He will appear in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court on March 17.

The police say as a result of the robbery, the complainant was late for a court date.
