Persistent rain which has battered eastern parishes destroyed a key road in the community of Friday, Portland, Monday, leaving a mere footpath for residents to exit districts in the Rio Grande Valley.
Affected areas include Mill Bank and Comfort Castle.
The state of roads in the Rio Grande Valley came to national attention after a market truck plunged into a ravine, killing 14 persons, on December 19, 2008. The Office of the Public Defender has said the condition of the road may have contributed to the crash.
