Travellers member Ray 'Fluggo' Brown is currently at the Kingston Public Hospital after getting beaten at Get Jiggy, a dance held on Saturday night in Whithorn, Westmoreland.

A close associate of Fluggo told the STAR that the selector had his jaw broken and is experiencing severe internal bleeding. According to a report in the STAR on Monday titled 'Deejays beaten at show', two deejays and a selector were reportedly held and beaten early Sunday morning after another deejay failed to show up and perform at the same event.

Another person who also experienced damage from the show was selector Ricky Trooper who although wasn't attacked, his sound system and truck were damaged.

Tension

According to Trooper, tension surrounding the show began prior to the event as he explained, "dem set a people who plan di show a people we play for all di time, years Travellers a play fi dem, years Foota Hype a play fi dem. Dem ask me to get Lady Saw and Ninja Man fi di show, mi get them, dem gimme $50,000 to give Lady Saw." Trooper explained that Lady Saw agreed to do the show but shortly before something came up and the artiste couldn't attend.

Trooper continued, "dem know Lady Saw couldn't make the show, mi try get someone else but on short notice; it neva work out. On di night of di show, with Ninja Man and Bounty Killer onstage bout 6 a.m., Ninja announce seh it a go stop, caw di police seh di show haffi stop. Some people a ask weh Mavado deh, Busy never turn up, dem fling few bottle onstage and Ninja seh nuh bodda wid dat and everyone left the venue."

Trooper told the STAR that while packing up his equipment, someone approached him, blaming him and Foota Hype for what occurred. Feeling the 'bad vibes' Trooper and his crew decided to leave the venue. Foota Hype, Fluggo and a few artistes were left behind. That was when the beating incident is said to have taken place.

Beaten by patrons

When the STAR spoke with an associate of the organiser for the event, he claimed that no artistes were beaten. He said Foota Hype was beaten by patrons of the event as they believed it was his fault that Mavado was a no-show. He said, "the guy who got beaten, it was his job to drop off the money to the artiste and he didn't. The patrons beat him up caw a him dem ketch, the other guys fled the scene. Trooper and Travellers fled the scene 'cause Trooper get money to pay Lady Saw to come."

Trooper however, tells a different tale, saying "...Dem mash up Foota Hype and Fluggo, a nuh no patron do it, nutten nuh go so." According to Trooper, he still has the $50,000 to give back to the promoters and is surprised by the whole incident. "I've been in this system for years and do tings for dem, is a family ting, a people we hold a chat and reason wid," he said.
