Disc jock, Nikki Z, whose real name is Nicole Duhaney, pleaded guilty to possession of marijuana when she appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday.
Duhaney has been appearing in court since last year, but initially pleaded not guilty to the charge. She was charged after an incident in which a ganja spliff was found in her car.
In court, Duhaney was granted a new mention date in March, but later returned to tell the court that she had received a job overseas and would not be able to return to court so frequently. After much deliberation, she changed her plea to guilty.
Duhaney told the court that the weed was not hers. She said she had no knowledge that it was in her car, but understood that since it was in her possession at the time that makes her guilty. Even though Senior Resident Magistrate Glen Brown advised her that she had the right to plead whichever way she wanted, she stuck with her guilty plea.
She said she was offered a radio show overseas and would not be living in the island.
