A 54-year-old farmer died as a result of injuries he sustained after the vehicle he was driving crashed along the Murray Pond main road, St James on Wednesday.

Dead is Ivan Irving of Murray Pond district.

Reports from the liaison officer for the Constabulary Communi-cation Network (CCN) in St James are that about 7 a.m., Irving was driving his Toyota pick-up with his 14-year-old son, along the Murray Pond main road.

On reaching a section of the road, he reportedly swerved to avoid colliding with a Toyota Corolla. He lost control of the vehicle, which ran off the road and hit a tree. Both occupants sustained serious injuries and were taken to the Cornwall Regional Hospital where Irving was pronounced dead and his son admitted in serious condition.
