Johnson appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magist-rate's Court yesterday to answer to charges of possession of, dealing in and trafficking ganja.

The court was told that on January 26, the police, acting on information, stopped a car being driven by the accused in the Eleven Miles area of Bull Bay, St Thomas. The car was searched and a bag containing the weed was found in the trunk.

When he appeared in court, Johnson told Senior Resident Magistrate Glen Brown that he went "to the country" to pick up the contraband for a friend of his father. He said the friend was travelling to the Bahamas.

Johnson, 30, who hails from St Thomas, said he borrowed the car from a friend who rented it.
