Although RDX thought its song Bend Over was banned from the RJR Communications group radio stations, this is not so.
The song, which speaks about dancing but has a slightly sexual undertone, was released last November and has become a dancing anthem.
François St Juste, general manager for radio at the RJR Communications Group (comprising Fame FM, Hitz 92 FM and RJR), said the song is not banned from the radio stations.
"No, no. It certainly isn't (banned). The song has attracted some form of attention from the Broadcasting Commission," St Juste told The STAR.
Precautionary measure
He said the commission asked for a copy of the song. However, St Juste said the commission is yet to say whether there is a problem with the song. Nonetheless, he said the song has been re-edited as a precautionary measure.
The Broadcasting Commission's executive director, Cordel Green, also said the song has not been banned.
When THE STAR spoke to RDX about the issue, Renigade and Delomar said they heard about the song being banned but had not been officially informed by the station.
According to Renigade, the duo does not have a problem with the song being banned but thinks such an action would be hypocritical of the station.
He said: "If you gonna ban Bend Over, then it's a display of the double standard because it has a sexual undertone but it really talks about dancing. There are other songs from other artistes that speak more explicitly about sex."
The fuss over Bend Over
Delomar also added, "the (supposed) ban has made the song more popular since."
Bend Over is featured on a number of music charts and continues to climb.
In a previous feature, RDX had written an article for THE STAR discussing all the fuss over Bend Over. Renigade wrote, "let us dissect Bend Over and examine the fundamentals. Though the song has a sexual undertone due to the name, Bend Over is a dancing song, celebrating dancing, a tradition dating back to our African ancestry through dances like Kumina and Dinky Minky. In Deh, In Deh is a dance created by music selector Fire Links, Wibble Wobble and Force It Een are dances created by dancer Bermuda Kid, Bunny Hop, Macka Jook and Rub It Een are dances created by other Jamaican dancers."
