Jamaica's Under-20 footballers advanced to the final round of the CONCACAF Under-20 World Cup qualifiers after registering a 2-0 win over St Vincent and the Grenadines in Kingstown, St Vincent, tuesday night.
The young Reggae Boyz, who will now face the United States, Mexico, Canada, Costa Rica, El Salvador and hosts Trinidad and Tobago, along with the winners of a play-off between St Vincent and Honduras, were led to victory by goals on both sides of half-time by prolific striker Alanzo Adlam and right wingback, Leaughn Williams.
They got their first goal through Adlam, who capitalised on a spill by the St Vincent goalkeeper. St Vincent, knowing that only a win would be enough to secure them an automatic berth in the CONCACAF round, then came roaring back at the Jamaicans, but every time they did, they were stopped in their tracks by the Jamaica defence, which for the third match running was marshalled well by captain Andre Darby.
The eight-team CONCACAF play-offs will be held in Trinidad and Tobago starting in March. The top four teams from the qualifiers will advance to the 2009 FIFA Under-20 World Cup, which will be held in Egypt later this year.
We gotta do better than the Official Reggae Boyz!!!
