While waiting for the next custom firmware coming from Dark AleX and Team M33, there's one based on the official Sony PlayStation Portablefirmware 3.93 that surfaced which appears to be a functional alternative. Only known as CFW 3.93, it's said to be rooted in M33's work and gives credit to usual CFW contributors.
To kick things off, here's the changelog provided for CFW 3.93
* Uses the 3.93 kernel * Implemented all the original custom firmware features. * Ability to use the normal recovery inside the XMB by pressing the HOME button: * When in the recovery, the system is suspended, and you can change all options directly. * All options work immediately, there is no need to reboot (even the Slim's USB charging option) * Ability to make a Pandora battery from the recovery, read and restore the EEPROM, etc. Providing that the motherboard supports it. * Ability to hide the MAC address in System Information, if you do so, the MAC will show visually as all 0's. * Ability to save the savegames in normal format, rather then encrypted (only functions in March33 and Sony NP9960 mode). * The native 3.93 pops isn't as good as the previous pops, therefor I hope the popsloader will get updated to support 3.93.
We're yet to get a hold of any confirmation pertaining to who made this particular custom firmware, but Dark AleX and Team M33 received recognition together with Hellcat's Saveplain plug-in. Mathieulh also supposedly agreed to publish this CFW 3.93.
Firmware Tested! Known bugs: NONE (Will post here if encounter any.)
I found that the game: FlatOut - Head On works better. It froze for me when I used 3.71M33-4 or 3.90M33-3. Iso's work. Recovery mode has new text colors. Hide MAC address is neat shows all 00:00:00:00:00:00 Being able to access the recovery mode from the XMB is sweet. Having the ability to pandorize and normilize a battery without any additional tools is cool.
Overall I like this new firmware and will use it until a better 1 is made or if I discover some problems.
Those that do update to this firmware, report back here if U encounter any problems with this new firmware. And I will do the same.
Yesterday's new custom firmware release rocked the community's boat, and today, it looks that we're in for more rocking. An update for Custom Firmware 3.93 has just hit the Internet waves and with it comes the 1.50 kernel.
In case you missed the report yesterday, CFW 3.93 for the PlayStation Portable was released and it packs in-XMB recovery together with a good number of other features. Note that this 1.50 kernel (version 1) is for the PSP Fat and of course, it only works with the custom firmware released yesterday. The readme lists the following changes:
* Install on a Fat the kernel 1.50 add on. To use the 1.50 Kernel for an application, you'll absolutely need to put the Kernel to 1.50, even if the application is in the GAME150 Kernel. * If you change the kernel in VSH Recovery, you'll still need a reboot * The new recovery has this two asked features : * Suspend device * Shutdown device
Installation is pretty simple: You just need to connect your PlayStation Portable to your PC, unzip the contents of the download to your PSP/GAME folder, and paste 150.PBP on the root of your memory stick. This update adds the 1.50 kernel and new recovery (listed above) to PSP Fats and adds the new recovery for PSP Slims.

===One Wire Pandora Battery NO SOFTWARE Required!!!=== For those that are STUCK on a NON HOMEBREW PSP.
This SHOULD HELP! ;) Pandoraize your PSP Phat and/or Slim battery without any related hacks; just take a close look at the diagrams provided by godzivan. If you have a steady hand, it only requires the soldering of one wire. Upon success, create your magic memory stick.
- A PSP with a Custom Firmware Like 3.40OE-A or 3.52 M33-3 or above. (To make the necessary Files and Convert the Battery into a Pandora's Battery.)
- A spare Memory Stick Pro Duo is not required. (1 is fine.)
- A spare Battery Is not required. If U have 1 working Homebrew ready PSP. And U are Unbricking/Downgrading Or Flashing another.
But U do need a second 1 if U wana be able to Unbrick your PSP if U only have 1. Because U will not be able to make the necessary files later without a working PSP. ================================================== ===
Works on ANY MS. Sony, Sandisk and Lexar Memory Stick PRO DOU's AS LONG AS IT's A MS PRO DUO. ================================================== =================
CHANGING YOUR BATTERY BACK TO NORMAL MODE: To change it back just disconnect the battery from PSP connect the AC adapter and power on the PSP. Then put the battery back in and run the Pandora's Battery Creator and press [ ] to change battery back to normal. Thats it. ================================================== ==============================
How to STEP By STEP: ===============
Changes in version 3 -----------------------
- Coded a display driver that supports the psp slim screen in the mixed 1.50/3.40 kernel. - The M33 instalaltion will install 3.71 M33-2, not 3.71 M33
---
Installation:
- If you have already a pandora ms, don't do this part. Otherwise, format an ms using c+d mspformat or any other tool that allows to move partition to ~250kb from first sector
Remove ms, usb and connect again usb and ms. Make PSP and PSP/GAME dirs.
- Copy despertar_cementerio to PSP/GAME/
- Download 1.50, 3.40 and 3.71 update eboots and copy them to ms root with 150.PBP, 340.PBP and 371.PBP names.
- Use the app under a cfw with 2.x or 3.x kernel (be sure that kernel is selected on recovery to the correct one (2.x or 3.x))
- Once finished, u will have msipl.bin on root. If you already have a pandora ms, you don't have to do this step (ipl doesn't changes lol), otherwise, use c+d msinst to install ipl on ms; or use dd command from unix, or any hex-edit program to write on sector 16 on the physical drive.
- Now you can delete 340 and 150 PBP's, as they won't be used more; but 371.PBP will be used for unbricker, so don't delete it.
- Now you have an universal pandora ms ready to go, and you just need a proper battery. If you have 1.50 kernel access, use c+d tool. Otherwise, use corly149 tool.
Battery and ms will work on all psp and slims to this date.
Unbricking:
- Press X to install 3.71M33.
- Press O to install original 3.71 (rest of the process as the X option)
- Press [] to dump nand to nand-dump.bin. When done, psp will auto shutdown.
- Press L+R+HOME+start to restore nand from nand-dump.bin
This proccess is very dangerous, and you should *just* use it if it's your last chance to get it working.
This is a physical restore process (not a logical one), and will try to make a 100% exact clon of the dump.
If you are working with a dump that isn't yours, you will get either a brick or a corrupt idstorage, depending on the firmware.
If while you are restoring your psp have got any damaged block more than when you dumped it, you might also get a brick, depending on what block is it.
Works for both PSP and PSP Slim. ================================================== ================================================== =====
- Copy the program to /PSP/GAME/UPDATE - If you have 1.50 addon, make sure you have the kernel of game folder configured to 3.71, or the program will not even start.
This update is totaly independent of the 3.71 M33 version installed (1, 2, or future ones), and also independent of previous 1.50 kernel addon installed or not.
Changes:
- When returning from sleep mode, 3.71 ipl was executed causing an inmediate crash. Fixed. ================================================== =======
- Copy the directory UPDATE to /PSP/GAME/UPDATE. - Get sony 1.50 update and copy it to the root with name "150.PBP" - Run the program and done.
Notes:
- This program is "ONLY FOR FAT PSP!". The program will reject PSP slim, due to the 1.50 kernel not working on it.
- Because of lack of space, the installer will remove Location Free Player, and the korean font. ================================================== ========
Must be on 3.52M33-4 to install! On a FAT PSP! Or 3.60 m33 On the Slim PSP!
- In Recovery Mode Set Game folder Kernel to 3.52.
- Copy the UPDATE folder to your MS Game folder. X:/PSP/GAME
- Execute the program, it requires 78% of battery. If you have idstorage corrupted due to a
downgrader, the program will ask you to correct it automatically so the update can continue.
- Press X, and the Sony updater will begin. Sit and enjoy while Sony code installs 3.71 M33
- When finished, the updater will ask you to reboot (pressing X or O). DO IT. Do not skip this step shutting down the psp by yourself, or you'll end with a brick.
Instructions: - Copy the UPDATE directory to /PSP/GAME and execute it.
Changelog:
- Bugfix: Multidisc psx games bought in the psn store would not work due to the format being different and M33 treating them as decrypted games.
- Added support for decrypted multidisc psx games created with popstation_md (supplied with this release).
Included in the package is a new version of popsloader. Changelog in popsloader:
- Bugfix: Games without compression had sound issues when using 3.72 pops. Fixed. - Added support for multidisc px games created with popstation_md. Note: multi disc games will only work in 3.71 and 3.72 pops. Previous pops will exit to the xmb with generic error 0x80000004 when attempting to run multidisc games. ================================================== ==================================

The instalation is done using pandora battery and requires a fat psp with 1.50 or custom firmware with 1.50 support to run a installer. However once the memory stick installation is done, you can use it in whatever psp slim without repeating the process again.
We want to thank C+D Team for having created Pandora and having opened the path to custom ipl's, without which this cfw wouldn't exist.
Steps:
- Create a pandora battery and a pandora memory stick using the C+D team tools. - Run the fat psp with the pandora memory stick inserted, but with a normal battery. Copy the directories pandora_slim and pandora_slim% to PSP/GAME or PSP/GAME150.
- Download official sony firmwares 3.40 and 3.50, and put them in pandora_slim directory with names 340.PBP and 350.PBP.
To avoid confussion: These firmwares are used ONLY to extend the memory stick pandora kernel. NOTHING FROM THOSE FIRMWARES WILL EVER BE FLASHED ON THE SLIM.
- Run the program. It will quickly extract some prx's overwrting some of the pandora memory stick.
- Insert the pandora battery and the memory stick in the psp slim. It will boot. You won't see anything on the screen, because that kernel doesn't support the slim screen, but it is OK, you don't need a screen for the installation of 3.60 M33.
From here, you have 3 options:
- Press X to install M33. The process will last just few seconds, since the installer only needs to install the M33 custom prx's and IPL. After the process is finished, the installer will shutdown the psp automatically.
- Press L+R+triangle to uninstall M33 and go back to original 3.60. Note: this can't unbrick a psp slim, it will just remove M33 ipl. There is currently no unbricker for the psp slim, but we plan on doing one in the future. After uninstallation, psp will be shutdown automatically.
- Press square to dump the PSP Slim nand. Watch out: you need 66 MB of free space in the memory stick for this, otherwise your memory stick may end corrupted.
This option uses the team C+D nand dumper. When the memory stick orange led stops blinking, the process will have finished, and you can either shutdown the psp, or use one of the two previous options.
Copy the M33UPDATE_352 to ms0:/PSP/GAME and Copy the M33Update4 to ms0:/PSP/GAME150 folder and launch the 3.52M33 installer.

And this Works on Sony, Sandisk and Lexar Memory Stick PRO DOU's Just in case U guys are wondering. ================================================== =================
CHANGING YOUR BATTERY BACK TO NORMAL MODE: To change it back just disconnect the battery from PSP connect the AC adapter and power on the PSP. Then put the battery back in and run the Pandora's Battery Creator and press [ ] to change battery back to normal. Thats it. ================================================== ==============================
How to STEP By STEP: ===============
Step 1: Download Pandora's Battery from 1 of the Links above. Extract the pandora.zip files.
Step 2: Insert the memory stick that you want to turn into a "magic memory stick." Back up the contents of the stick to your computer.
Step 3: Use the built-in format tool (in the PSP System Settings menu) to reformat your memory stick.
Step 4: Connect your PSP in USB mode.
Step 5: Open a command prompt (Start -> Run -> cmd)
Step 6: In the command prompt, switch into the 'mspformat' folder you extracted in step 1... wherever you put it.
Step 7: Type cd c:\ then "mspformat X" where X is the drive of your PSP. Do not include the colon. For example, my PSP is connected at O:, so I type "mspformat O".
You should see a prompt like this:
>>> C:\>mspformat.exe O >>> You are about to format the drive O. >>> All data will be lost. Do you want to continue? [Y]
Type 'y'.
>>> y
and you should see
>>> Drive succesfully formatted, and partition moved.
Step 8: Disconnect from USB mode, then remove and re-insert your memory stick. Reconnect in USB mode.
Step 9: On your memory stick, make sure that you have folders named GAME and GAME150 in a folder named PSP. If you don't have them, make them.
Step 10: Copy the two folders from 'battery' into GAME (for 1.50) or GAME150 (for custom firmware). The folders should be named "pandora_battery" and "pandora_battery%", so they should be \PSP\GAME\pandora_battery and \PSP\GAME\pandora_battery% (or \PSP\GAME150\pandora_battery and \PSP\GAME150\pandora_battery%).
Step 11: Disconnect from USB mode, insert the battery you wish to use as your unbricker, and run "Pandora's Battery Creator" from the Memory Stick section of the GAME menu.
Step 12: ***OPTIONAL - SEE NOTE *** Press Triangle to back up the contents of your battery's flash into a file on you memory stick. The program will automatically exit. Run "Pandora's Battery Creator" one more time. *Note:* This step is REQUIRED if you want to make this a normal battery again; otherwise it's optional.
Step 13: Press X to turn your battery into an unbricking battery (a Service Mode battery). The program will automatically exit.
Step 14: Connect in USB mode.
Step 15: Download the 1.50 EBOOT here http://www.sendspace.com/file/s2a2qo and Copy the 1.50 EBOOT file onto the root of your memory stick; it should be the same place as your "PSP" folder. Rename it to "UPDATE.PBP".
Step 16: The extracted folder "installer" contains two folders. Copy both of these into the same place you copied "pandora_battery".
Step 17: Disconnect from USB mode and run "Pandora's Battery Firm. Installer" from the Memory Stick section of the GAME menu. Step 18: Press X to unpack the 1.50 firmware files into their proper place on your memory stick. The program will automatically exit. If this step fails, go back into USB mode and rename "UPDATE.PBP" to just "UPDATE", then try again.
Step 19: Connect in USB mode. Look in the root of your memory stick (where you have the PSP folder and the UPDATE.PBP file). There should be a file named "msipl.bin". Step 20: Copy "msipl.bin" and "msinst.exe" to Drive C:\.
Step 21: In the Command Prompt, switch into the "msinst" folder... wherever you put it.
Step 22: Type "msinst X msipl.bin" where X is the drive of your PSP. Do not include the colon. For example, my PSP is connected at O:, so I type "msinst O msipl.bin".
You should see a prompt like this. I guarantee that your stuff will be slightly different; it depends on how your computer is set up, what sort of memory stick you have, and so on. As long as you get the "Are You Sure? [Y]" prompt, you know that the msipl.bin file is OK.
>>> C:\msinst O msipl.bin >>> PSP MS IPL Installer >>> Load IPL code msipl.bin >>> 241664 bytes(59 block) readed >>> >>> Target DRIVE is 7 >>> Check partation Sector >>> boot status 0x80 >>> start head 0x05 >>> start sec/cyl 0x0004 >>> partation type 0x06 >>> last head 0x0F >>> last sec/cyl 0xB7E0 >>> abs sector 0x00000810 >>> ttl sector 0x000767F0 >>> signature 0xAA55 >>> Check BPB Sector >>> signature AA55 >>> Check free reserved sector:OK >>> Write ABS Sector 0x10 to 0x1E7 >>> Are You Sure ?[Y]
Type 'y'.
>>> y
and you should see
>>> Write MS BOOT CODE
That means that you now have a "magic" memory stick.
You're all set!
To unbrick a bricked PSP (this part's a lot easier, I promise):
1. Insert the "magic" memory stick. 2. Insert the unbricker battery. Your wifi, memory stick, and power lights should all turn on temporarily, and a menu should appear. 3. Press X. After it checks the update file, you should get another menu. 4. Press X to write Firmware 1.50 onto the PSP.
That's it... just let it work!
Now, you have a battery/memory stick pair that CAN UNBRICK ANY PSP just insert them into any PSP and it will be reinstalled with the v1.5 firmware. ================================================== ===========
=Popsloader PRX's= ====================
With this ALL PS1 games work on 3.52M33-4 - 3.71M33 Firmwares.
Activate the plugin in recovery and done! First time you run a game, it will let you choose pops version. Next time will remember configuration for each game press R to change it. ================================================== =========================
=Convert your Homebrew to ISO= ==============================
This can be helpful in many ways. Mainly to downsize the size of the homebrew. With this Counter Strike went from 72mb to 32mb using CSO.
Heres the tutorial:
To start you should know the ISO directory unless you download the dummy iso i uploaded. \PSP_GAME\ICON0.PNG \PSP_GAME\PARAM.SFO \PSP_GAME\PIC1.PNG \PSP_GAME\USRdIR\ \PSP_GAME\SYSDIR\BOOT.BIN \PSP_GAME\SYSDIR\EBOOT.BIN \UMD_DATA.BIN
1) you will need PBP_Unpack.exe, PsPBrew.exe ,and UMDGen. 2) Instal Them if you didnt do so 3) Get your Favorite Homebrew you want to conver into ISO 4) if the home brew is in XKploite Form convert it using PsPbrew into 1.0 version 5) after doing so open EBOOT.PBP with PBP_Unpaker 6) extract data.psp 7) after that all you need to do is make two copys of that file Cool rename 1 of thoughs files to BOOT.BIN and the other to EBOOT.BIN 9) after doing that place both of thoughs files in SYSDIR dir IN UMD Structure 10) if the homebrew your trying load has other files in there directory you caN PLACE THEM in SYSDIR two. 11) after placing every file in the right directory 12) Just Use UMD Gen to make a PSP COmpatable ISO. 13) then your done. ================================================== =======

Power off your PSP by holding the power button for 5 seconds. Then HOLD the "R" trigger and turn the PSP on. When the Recovery Mode turns on: Go into Advanced: Press "X" to Toggle USB flash1 -ON- delete ALL Flash1 files and folders. Press "X" to Toggle USB flash1 -Off- Press "X" on back Press "X" on Exit Done. ============================================
=Using PRX's with HOMEBREW= ====================
To do this just make a game150.txt in the seplugins folder and put the line of any PRX. Example: ms0:/seplugins/capture.prx in the game150.txt
And U will be able to use the PRX's while using homebrew. ======================================
=2.71 Updateflasher= ==================
1st U need to update to 2.71 if your on any other firmware below that. (If U are above 2.71 Use another Downgrader.)
(MAKE SURE U PLUG IN YOUR PSP CHARGHER!) (THE PSP BATTERY NEEDS TO BE AT 75% OR MORE FOR THE UPDATE TO RUN!) So if your battery is lower then that then let it charge until it's at 75%. Then Just put the EBOOT.PBP in the PSP/GAME/UPDATE and run it from the Memory Stick under GAME.
1 - Copy all contents inside 2.71 Updateflasher to the root of your memory stick. 2 - Copy the 1.50 EBOOT WITH THE NAME (UPDATE.PBP) to PSP\GAME\UPDATE\ 3 - Go to the PHOTO viewer of the XMB and enter in the folder "HENB". - If the psp just freeze, reboot your psp and try again. - The first time you run the program, you will see quickly a blue screen, and after that a screen that can be of two colors:
* Red: the files couldn't be written to the flash (it hapens a few times). Just keep trying. * Green: The files were written succesfully. After that, the xmb will be rebooted.
4 - On the PSP go to:
Settings--> System Settings--> System Information--> U will see 2.71HEN IF U do U are set for the last step.
5 - Now you can run the X.YZ Update to flash your PSP to 1.50.
3.) - Load GTA LCS - It should get to loading savegame, then the screen will clear to black and fill with a light blue colour, then the PSP will reset itself (if this does not happen see section below)
- If the PSP freezes try again - When you run the program, you'll see a coloured screen that can be one of two colors: * Red: the files couldn't be written to the flash (it happens a few times). Just keep trying. * Pale Blue: The files were written succesfully, and HEN is active. After that, the xmb will be rebooted.
4.) - Check that HEN is running by going to system settings, then to "System Information" and it should show up as system version 303 HEN
5.) - If it is showing up as HEN then go to the memory stick and run the x.yz update
6.) - If you have an unpatched TA-082 or higher motherboard, you will be prompted to allow the downgrader to patch your motherboard so it can be safely downgraded. The downgrader will not let you proceed without patching, if your motherboard requires it.
7.) - Before the downgrader does anything to your PSP it will ask for you to agree to what it is doing, if you no longer want to continue press the Right Shoulder Button (R-TRIGGER).
8.) - Once you have agreed to start the downgrade do not unplug the PSP, or try and restart it
9.) - Once finished the PSP will ask you to press X, and reset itself
I NEVER fail, i'm just SUCCESSFUL in finding out what doesn't work Freedom is never voluntarily given by the oppressor; it must be demanded by the oppressed.
Create Pandora Battery to Unbrick / Install Custom firmware on your PSP
See the bottom of the guide on how to 'Repartition the Flash memory' If your PSP freezes while installing files or formatting flash you will need to repair the partition table to enable Pandora to work again.
This guide will show you how to create a 'Pandora battery' that can be used to unbrick a PSP or Install Custom Firmware onto your Original or Slim PSP. You do not need to modify any files on the memory stick as the multi-ipl loader can autodetect which PSP type you have.
Pandora will work on both Original and Slim PSPsystems.
To make a Pandora Battery and Memory stick you will need:
Windows Operating system on your PC and a user account with 'Admin' rights
A 64mb or higher Memory Stick PRO DUO (256mb or higher is recommended) The size of all the Pandora files is about 24mbytes, the '1.50 Addon' files are about 20mbytes.
A PSP that has custom firmware installed
A Compatible 'Fat' PSP battery. (I've read that you can use a slim PSP to convert an 'original' battery, Just don't convert the psp slim battery as the battery will stop working.)
If you don't have a PSP with custom firmware, then you will need to either:
If you have an Fat PSP you may be able to downgrade it to 1.50 using one of the 1.50 downgraders. Note: If you have a slim PSP you will not be able to downgrade to firmware 1.50 as the 1.50 firmware files are not compatible with the PSP Slim
Find someone who has 'Custom firmware' installed on their PSP and get them to make the battery for you.
Find someone with a pre-made 'Pandora Battery and Memory stick' and use it to install custom firmware on your PSP
Buy a Pre-made pandora battery (e.g like the Datel 'Max Power Tool' Battery)
You can use the 'Pandora Battery' as a 'Normal Battery' using my files. The only problem is sleep mode doesn't work at all when using the Pandora battery and you will need to use either your Pandora or 'xmbloader' memory stick to turn on the PSP when using the Pandora battery.
Holding the 'L' button when inserting the Pandora Battery will launch the 'Pandora Recovery Menu and holding the 'R' button will access 'Custom Firmware Recovery mode', If you don't hold any button your PSP will start normally in the XMB.
/!\ Warnings: /!\ By formatting your 'Memory Stick' you will lose all data currently on your memory stick, including game saves, ISOs etc. Please copy everything from the memory stick you want to convert to a folder on your computer before formatting.
Checking if your Memory Stick is Compatible: Any memory stick Pro Duo will work as long as its 64mb or higher, 256mb or bigger is recommended. The 32mb Duo that some PSPsystems come with will not work as its not a 'PRO DUO' memory stick.
Checking if your Battery is Compatible:
The Official batteries (Battery Models 'PSP-110' and 'PSP-280') are known to work properly with the 'Pandora' Files. The 'Original' Fat PSP System should come with either a PSP-110 or PSP-280 battery.
The Datel 'Max Power TOOL Battery' can also be used as a Pandora battery if you can't or don't want to make your own battery. Do a Google search for "Datel Max Power TOOL Battery" and you should find a few online shops that sell them.
DealExtreme.com has 'pre-made pandora batteries' for sale for $11usd + free shipping. (Item sku: 12472) (The shipping is said to be slow when using the free option, you can pay extra for EMS Express post, need paypal)
Required Files you need to download to make a 'Pandora Battery'
3.80 M33 Pandora Files
Pandora Battery Files to install 3.80 M33-5(Version 1) (~24.0 mb) The main set of files needed to make a Pandora battery and memory stick. If you make a 'Pandora memory stick' using these files, Pandora will install 'Custom Firmware 3.80 M33-5' onto your PSP. Pandora Battery Files to install 3.71 M33-2(Version 5) (~23.7 mb) The main set of files needed to make a Pandora battery and memory stick. If you make a 'Pandora memory stick' using these files, Pandora will install 'Custom Firmware 3.71 M33-2' onto your PSP. Includes these addon programs pre-installed: * 3.71 M33 Update #4 (Start from the Game -> Memory Stick menu) * Nandtool version 0.3b1 (To make a 'backup' of your PSP NAND) * OS Pandora Battery Creator 0.5a (Battery Creator for 3.xx) * Pandora's Battery Creator (Battery Creator for 1.50) Download: http://www.sendspace.com/file/rsfl4s Mirror : http://www.zshare.net/download/6768742592774e/
1.50 Addon files for 3.71 M33(Version 2) (~13.3 mb) 1.50 addon files for 'Original' PSPsystems only, allows 1.50 format homebrew to run. (Optional) (Note: the 1.50 Addon files and the '3.71 M33 Update #4' cannot be placed on the same memory stick as they both use the 'UPDATE' folder.) Download: http://www.sendspace.com/file/f9e4yj Mirror : http://www.zshare.net/download/4122331527a909/
Updating a 3.71 M33-2 Pandora Memory stick to 3.80 M33-5: 1. Backup any important files on your 'Pandora Memory stick' to your computer. (e.g battery 'eeprom.bin') 2. Download the '3.80 Pandora files' and extract it to a folder on your computer. 3. Delete the 'KD' folder and '371.PBP' file on your memory stick. PS: (do not format your memory stick as you will lose the 'Pandora bootcode' and will have to reinstall it) 4. Copy everything in the Pandora380 \ PSP_Memorystick folder to your memory stick and replace all files when asked. 5. You can also delete the 'ospbt_04' folder from the PSP \ GAME folder on your memory stick. (Its the 'Battery creator' for 3.71 only, 'ospbt_05' works on both 3.71 and 3.80 M33 so the older version is not needed)
Converting your 'Memory Stick' into a 'Pandora Memory Stick'
1. Download and extract the files, copy the 'Pandora380' or 'Pandora371' folder to your C: e.g Open My Computer -> Local Disk (C:) -> and Paste the Pandora380 or Pandora371 folder. (On windows vista, you might need 'Administrator permission' to copy the folder, press the continue button twice)
2. Turn on your PSP and insert the memory stick you want change to a 'Pandora' memory stick. 3. (optional step, might not be required) Go to the Settings -> System Settings menu on your PSP, select the 'Format Memory Stick' option and press 'X'. Choose the 'Yes' option and when asked if you want to format the memory stick and press 'X'.
Note: If you do this using the windows 'format' tool make sure the memory stick is formatted in FAT/FAT16 and not FAT32.
4. For Windows XP Users -> Click 'Start' then 'Run' (or hold the Windows Key and press 'R' on your keyboard) In the 'Open' Box type in CMD and press Enter or click OK and a black MS-DOS window will open.
For Windows Vista Users -> Right click your desktop and create a new shortcut, type in CMD and click next twice. Right click on the new shortcut and choose 'Run as Administrator' and choose 'Continue' and a black MS-DOS window will open. (The title of the window should read 'Administrator: cmd.exe')
5. Type in: CD \ and press Enter, this will take you to your C:\> Drive. 6. Now type in CD Pandora380 (or CD Pandora371) and press Enter, this will change the folder to C:\Pandora380> (or C:\Pandora371>)
7. Type in installipl and press enter and you should see this on the screen:
PSP MS IPL Installer Load IPL code .\ipl_loader.bin 15620 bytes(4 block) readed Scan Media Drive 0:Non RemovableMedia Connect target MsProDuo
8. Connect your PSP to your computer using a USB cable and activate the USB connection while the MSDOS window is open. 9. The Program will auto-detect the memory stick and will ask 'Are you sure? [Y]', press Y.
10. Look at the last few lines on the black 'Ms-Dos' window:
If you see "Write MS BOOT CODE" then the 'Pandora Bootcode' has been written to the memory stick. This means your Pandora Memory stick will work correctly. You can now close the black MSDOS window since you have the 'bootcode' installed to the memory stick. Note: Do not format your memory stick after this, doing so will erase the 'Pandora Bootcode' and you will need to make the memory stick again.
If you don't see 'Write MS BOOT CODE' or you get an error like 'too small reserved sectors' then do this: (The mspformat program will only work on Windows XP, it doesn't work on Vista)
* Type mspformat X (replace X with the drive letter of your PSP e.g 'mspformat E') * Press 'Y' when you see 'Do you want to continue?' * After its done you should see Drive Sucessfully Formatted and Partition Moved * Now close the USB Connection and go back and do step 7 to 10 again.
If you get an error and just continue on with guide then your Pandora Memorystick will not work at all, you will just get a 'black screen' on your PSP because the 'Pandora boot code' has not been written successfully to the memory stick.
11. Open 'My Computer -> Local Disk (C:) -> Pandora380 (or Pandora371) -> PSP_Memorystick' folder and copy everything inside it to your memory stick.
After the files have been copied to the memory stick, you can delete the 'Pandora380' (or Pandora371) folder from your 'Local Disk (C:)'
Installing the '1.50 Kernel addon' files to a memory stick 12. Download and extract the 1.50 addon files. 13. Copy the 150.pbp file and the PSP folder to your memory stick. (e.g Removable Disk (E:) ) 14. Choose 'Yes' when asked to overwrite / replace / merge the files. 15. The '1.50 addon program' will show up as 'PSP Firmware Update 1.50' on the game menu.
Installing the 'XMBLoader' program to non-pandora memory sticks
Do not install the XMBLoader bootcode to a 'Pandora memory stick, it is not needed! Installing it will overwrite the 'Pandora Bootcode' and you need to make your 'Pandora' memory stick again.
The reason xmbloader is needed is when you turn on the PSP with a Pandora battery it will start from the memory stick. If there is no program on the memory stick or there is no memory stick inserted the PSP will show a black screen. To start the PSP in the XMB using the Pandora battery battery you will need to use either the 'Pandora Memory stick' or a Memory stick that has the XMB loader program installed to it. This program is installed to non-pandora memory sticks to allow them to be used to 'start' the PSP in the XMB when using a Pandora Battery.
1. Download the XMBLoader program and extract it. 2. Copy the 'xmbloader' folder to your computers hard drive -> Local Disk (C:\)
3. For Windows XP -> Click 'Start' then 'Run' (or hold the Windows Key and press 'R' on your keyboard) In the 'Open' Box type in CMD and press Enter or click OK and a black MS-DOS window will open.
For Windows Vista -> Right click your desktop and create a new shortcut, type in CMD and click next twice. Right click on the new shortcut and choose 'Run as Administrator' and choose 'Continue' and a black MS-DOS window will open. (The title of the window should read 'Administrator: cmd.exe')
4. Type in: CD \ and press Enter, this will take you to your C:\> Drive. 5. Now type in CD xmbloader and press Enter, this will change the folder to C:\xmbloader>
6. Type in install and press enter and you should see this on the screen:
PSP MS IPL Installer Load IPL code .\ipl_ms.bin 2288 bytes(1 block) readed Scan Media Drive 0:Non RemovableMedia
7. Connect your PSP to your computer using a USB cable and activate the USB connection. 8. The program will auto-detect the memory stick and will ask 'Are you sure? [Y]', press Y.
If you have multiple memory sticks and want to write the boot code to another memory stick: Close the USB connection on the PSP, insert the new memory stick and repeat step 6 to 8.
9. Close the black MSDOS window as you are finished installing the xmbloader bootcode.
After the bootcode has been installed to the memory stick, you can delete the 'xmbloader' folder from your 'Local Disk (C:)'
Converting your 'Battery' into a 'Pandora Battery' If you already have a Pandora battery then you can skip this section, no need to make one when you already have one ;)
Note: If you get a game cannot be started error then make sure you are using a custom firmware PSP to make the battery. An Official firmware PSP cannot run the battery creator program!
If you do have custom firmware, check the 'game folder homebrew' in recovery mode is set to '3.xx kernel' and you are running the correct battery creator for your PSP firmware version (1.50 or 3.xx)
1. Insert the Pandora Memory Stick and the Battery you want to convert into a Pandora battery into your PSP and turn your PSP on.
2. Go to the 'Game -> Memory Stick' menu and:
-=> If you have a PSP with a Custom Firmware: (e.g 3.xx OE / 3.52 M33 / 3.71 M33 / 3.80 M33):
a. Start the 'OS Pandora Battery Tool 0.5' b. When the program starts, Press the 'X' button to continue. c. Choose the "backup battery eeprom to ms0:/eeprom.bin and press 'X' d. Press 'X' again after the program has finished reading the battery data.
e. Choose the "convert to service mode (aka: pandora battery)" f. Press 'X' again after the program has verified the battery serial is correct. (If your battery serial doesn't change then the battery doesn't have a writable EEPROM inside it so the Battery cannot be used as a Pandora Battery)
g. Choose 'quit now' and the program will exit.
-=> If you have a PSP with Official Firmware 1.50:
a. Start the 'Pandora's Battery Creator' program. b. When the program starts, Press the 'Triangle' button to save your battery information to the memory stick. c. The program will now exit to the XMB Menu.
d. Go back to the Game -> Memory Stick menu and start the 'Pandora's Battery Creator' Program again. e. This time when the program starts, press 'X' to 'Convert your Battery into a Service Mode One' f. The Program will now exit back to the XMB menu.
3. Your Battery has now been converted to a 'Pandora Battery'
4. Make a copy of the 'eeprom.bin' file from your memory stick to a folder on your computer as a backup. (This file contains the 'Original' battery information, you will need this file to restore the battery back to an original one)
Making a 'backup' of your PSP NAND memory What is the 'NAND'? The NAND is the 'chip' the PSP stores all its data on (Partition Tables, IPL, Idstorage, Flash0 through to Flash3) There is currently no way to 're-generate' the Idstorage area on a PSP system. Making a Nand-dump of this entire chip will help if you need to fix a corrupted IdStorage, Flash0 etc.
Warning: Only use a NAND Dump on the PSP it was created on.
1. Turn off your PSP by holding the power button for 4 seconds. 2. Insert the 'Pandora Memory Stick' into your PSP, this must be done before you insert the battery. 3. Hold the 'L' button and insert the 'Pandora Battery' and your PSP will turn itself on automatically.
4. After a few seconds, you will see the 'Pandora`s Battery Recovery Menu' and will have 4 options. 5. Press the 'Square' button twice to start the 'NAND Dumper'
6. On the first screen you will see the size of the 'Nand' inside your PSP. You will see 32MiB for an the Original PSP or 64MiB on the Slim PSP.
Your memory stick will require either 33mb (Original) or 66mb (Slim) of free space to make a NAND Dump. If you have a 64mb memory stick, then you will not be able to do a Nand-Dump due to the lack of space on the memory stick
7. Press 'O' to move onto the next screen. 8. Choose 'Dump from NAND' option and press 'X' 9. The filename will be shown on the screen, Press 'X'
10. Wait while the PSP reads the NAND from your PSP and copies it to your Memory stick. 11. After the dump has completed, press 'X' 12. Press 'O' twice to return to the main menu.
13. Select 'Shutdown' and press 'X' and your PSP will turn off.
14. Make a copy of the NAND to your computer and keep it safe. (you can use this to restore your PSP if something goes wrong)
Downgrade / Unbrick a PSP using the Pandora Battery and Memory Stick
Before Installing Custom firmware onto a PSP, I recommend to make a 'Nand-Dump' just in case something goes wrong. You can use it to 'revert' your PSP back to how it was before you attempted to install custom firmware on it.
4. Afer a few seconds, you will see the 'Pandora`s Battery Recovery Menu' and will have 4 options.
X = Will Install custom firmware onto your PSP. O = Will Install official firmware onto your PSP (this is useful if you need to send PSP back for repair) [] = Will start 'Nand-tool' so you can make a backup of your PSP flash memory. L+R+Start+Home = Restore a nand-dump (Use Nand-Tool to restore the nand-dump instead)
5. Press 'X' to start the install of the custom firmware. While the firmware is installing, the memory stick and WiFi lights will flash, this is normal.
6. Once the 'Custom Firmware' install has completed, the Memory Stick and WiFi lights will stop flashing and you will be asked to restart the PSP.
7. Turn off your PSP and turn it back on. Note: If you upgraded a Slim PSP and the psp won't turn on, change the Pandora battery to a slim battery.
If you get a 'Corrupted Settings' blue screen error message: Press 'O' a few times and your PSP should restart with fixed settings. The PSP will then go through the 'Initial Setup' process, (setting time / date / name etc.)
If your PSP freezes before it loads the XMB menu: Turn off your PSP (hold the power button up for 7 seconds). Turn on the PSP holding the 'R' button to access 'Recovery mode' Select the 'Advanced' Menu and press 'X', select the 'Format Flash1 and Reset Settings' option and press 'X' The PSP will then go through the 'Initial Setup' process. (setting time / date / name etc.)
If your PSP loads the XMB menu: Go to the 'Settings Menu' and redo the settings (Nickname / Video Settings, Theme Settings etc) (Or you can use the 'Reset to default settings' option on the Settings -> System Settings menu)
9. Turn off the PSP by holding the power switch for 4 seconds. 10. Hold the 'R' Button and turn the PSP back on to enter recovery mode and configure the recovery mode options.
11. After you have set the Recovery Mode options, choose "Exit" to go back to the XMB menu.
Restore a Pandora Battery back to a Normal Battery
1. Insert the Pandora Battery and Pandora Memory stick into your PSP. (Your PSP will turn itself on automatically)
2. Go to the 'Game -> Memory Stick' menu and:
-=> If you are using a PSP that has 'custom firmware' (e.g 3.71 M33 / 3.80 M33 / 3.90 M33):
a. Start the 'OS Pandora Battery Tool 0.5' b. When the program starts, Press the 'X' button to continue. c. Choose the 'Flash only serial from ms0:/eeprom.bin' option. (note: If you don't have a eeprom backup, choose the 'convert to normal mode' option)
d. Press 'X' again after the program has finished writing the battery data. e. Choose 'quit now' and the program will exit.
-=> If you are using a PSP with official firmware 1.50:
a. Start the 'Pandora's Battery Creator' program. b. When the program starts, Press the L and R buttons at the same time. This will flash the battery eeprom from ms0:\eeprom.bin. (note: If you don't have a eeprom backup, choose the 'convert battery in normal one' option)
c. The program will now exit to the XMB Menu.
3. Your Pandora Battery has now been converted back to a 'Normal Battery'
Restore a Pandora Memory Stick back to a Normal Memory Stick
/!\ Warning: /!\ Make sure you have restored your battery back to normal. If you do this first you may not be able to change the 'Pandora Battery' back to a 'Normal Battery' since the 'Battery eeprom' information is stored in a file on the memory stick.
Formatting your memory stick will delete everything from it, Check that you have no important files on your memory stick before doing this. If you have important files on the memory stick, make a copy of them to your computer before formatting your memory stick.
1. Insert a battery into your PSP and turn it on. 2. Insert the Pandora memory stick that you want to change back to a normal memory stick. 3. Go to the 'Settings Menu' and choose 'System Settings' 4. Choose the 'Format Memory Stick' option and choose 'Yes' and 'Yes' again 5. Once the memory stick has been formatted is it back to normal.
How To Recharge the Pandora Battery
1. Insert the 'Pandora Battery' and hold the 'L' button to access Pandora recovery menu. 2. Hold the power button up for 7 seconds to turn off the PSP. 3. Plug in your battery charger / AC Adaptor. 4. The battery light should turn Orange to indicate that the battery is charging. 5. Turn off your PSP by holding the power button for 4 seconds. 6. The power light should still be orange after the PSP power is off. 7. Once the battery is fully recharged, The orange power light will turn off.
Fixing your PSP Flash Memory Partition Tables
If your PSP freezes at a 'formatting flash' when trying to use pandora, your PSP may have a 'corrupted partition table'. If you have a Nand-dump, then you should restore it WITHOUT the 'Idstorage' option. If you don't have a Nand-dump, you can use a 'lflash format' to try and repair the partition tables.
Installing Nand-tool (Most users can skip these steps as I've included 'Nand-tool' as a part of the Pandora Install Files) 1. Download 'NandTool 0.3b1' and extract it to a folder on your computer, you will get a file called 'backup.elf' 2. Insert your 'Pandora Memory Stick' into your PSP and connect it to your computer (or use a memory stick card reader) 3. Copy the 'backup.elf' file and paste it inside the "KD" folder and overwrite the existing file. 4. Close the USB connection and disconnect the USB Cable. (or take memory stick out of the card reader)
Instructions on Using NAND-Tool: 5. Make sure you have at least 33mb of 'free space' on your memory stick' for a original PSP, or 66mb for a slim PSP. 6. Insert 'Pandora Memory Stick' into your PSP 7. Insert 'Pandora Battery' into your PSP while holding the 'L' button to access 'Pandora Recovery Menu'. 8. Wait for 5 seconds and then press the 'Square' button to start the 'NAND Dumper' program.
9. On the next screen, press 'O' to go to the next part of the dumper. 10. Choose 'Dump from NAND' option and press 'X', You will see the filename the 'NAND Image' will be copied to, press 'X' again. * Please wait while your PSP NAND is being copied to your memory stick *
11. Once the dump is completed press 'X', now press 'O' to go back to the main menu. 12. Select the 'Other' menu option and press 'X' 13. Select the 'Repartition lflash' option and press 'X' 14. Press 'Triangle' to confirm you want to 'logically format the flash' * Wait while the lflash area is logically formatted, this may take a few minutes *
15. After the lflash format has been completed, press 'X' 16. Press 'O' to go back to the main menu. 17. Scroll down to 'Quit' and press 'X', the PSP will shut down. 18. Hold 'L' and turn the PSP back on and you will see the 'Pandora Recovery Menu' 19. Press 'X' to install 'Custom firmware M33' and custom firmware will be installed.
After the custom firmware install has finished, your PSP should hopefully be working properly. I recommend you delete the old non-working NAND-dump and make another backup of your working PSP using 'NandTool'. If the 'lflash' gets corrupted again, you can restore the dump instead of repartitioning and installing the custom firmware again.

1.50 Addon files for 3.71 M33: Version 2: Fixes a bug that crashed the psp when exiting from sleep mode. Version 1: First Release
The 1.50 Downgraders in this post are only for 'fat' PSP systems. The 'M33 Installer and update' files can be used to install and update Slim PSP already on custom firmware.
You can downgrade any PSPFirmware version using the Pandora Battery. 'Pandora' can update ANY Official or Custom Firmware version: e.g Official 3.71, 2.81, 2.50, or custom firmwares 3.10 OE, 3.40 OE, etc.
If you have a Slim PSP or an Original PSP with Official Firmware 3.51 or higher you will need to use 'Pandora Battery' to Install Custom Firmware, There are no Downgraders for slim PSPs or firmware versions higher then 3.51.
Read the "Gathering information about your PSP" Section for more information about what you need to do to downgrade and install custom firmware onto your PSP.
You will need winrar to extract the files you download from this topic. You can download the winrar for free here: http://www.rarlabs.com/download.htm
Upgrading / Downgrading your PSPs firmware will write to the 'flash memory' of your PSP. There is a very small risk of bricking your PSP when writing to flash memory. All downgrades should be successful if you follow the instructions carefully and correctly. Although you may be one of the unlucky few that the downgrade fails on. By following this guide you understand the risks you are taking with your PSP.
Formatting your memory stick will erase 'everything' on it. Please make a backup copy of any important files to your computer before you continue. (Like the savegames in your \PSP\SAVEDATA\ folder and any video / music / pictures you may have.)
Note: After installing the required files to your memory stick, wait for about 1 minute before closing the USB connection and disconnecting the USB cable, Sometimes windows will keep the data in memory and will write that data to the memory stick even after the installation looks like has successfully finished.
Custom firmware replaces your PSPs official firmware but it is not a permanent upgrade. You can easily uninstall the custom firmware and to back to official firmware if you don't like or don't want to use custom firmware anymore.
Custom Firmware has all the features of the official sony firmware, but also adds the ability to load homebrew PSP ISOs and PSX EBOOTs directly from the game menu in the XMB. so you can still play your original UMD discs, Music and Videos using custom firmware.
Custom Firmware also has an option to use 'No-UMD Mode' so you can run your PSP ISOs without a UMD inserted. The 'Sony NP9660' No-UMD mode has the highest compatibility rate and almost all ISO games work with it.
If you have any PSP ISOs in 'DAX' format, you need to convert them to ISO or CSO files using UMDGEN, Custom Firmware doesn't support the DAX format.
Your PSPs UMD Drive should be empty while upgrading / downgrading your PSP. (except when downgrading from 3.03 & 3.50 you will need a UMD inserted to start the downgrader) It is recommended to remove the UMD Disc from your PSP before you do anything in this guide.
If you don't have a USB cable but you have a memorycard reader, you can use that instead. when you see 'connect your PSP to your computer and make a USB connection', Turn off your PSP, take the memory stick out of your PSP and insert it into your memorycard reader. When you see 'close the USB connection and disconnect your PSP from your computer' Take the memory stick out of your computer and insert it into your PSP and turn your PSP on.
Downgrade 3.03 to 1.50 The 3.03 downgrader requires you to use an 'unpatched copy' of Grand Theft Auto : Liberty City Stories UMD to start the downgrader. The unpatched copy of the UMD has the 2.00 firmware update on it.
Downgrade 3.11 / 3.50 to 1.50 The 3.11 / 3.50 downgrader requires you to use a Lumines UMD to start the downgrader.

How do I....
Stop the UMD from Auto-starting when I turn on my PSP?
First you need to check what firmware version your PSP has:
To find your PSPfirmware version: 1. In the XMB scroll to the left to 'Settings' (XMB is the main menu of your PSP) 2. Scroll down to 'System Settings' and press 'X' 3. Scroll down to 'System Information' and press 'X' 4. Your firmware version is what is written next to "System Software:"
If the System Software contains either 'SE' or 'OE' or 'M33' letters or your System Software is 1.50 (e.g 2.71 SE-C, 3.30 OE-A', 3.52 M33-3) then you have custom firmware installed and can update to the latest version of Custom Firmware by reading the "Installing Custom Firmware" section.
If your 'System Software' is higher then 1.50 then you will need to downgrade before you can install 'Custom Firmware', Follow the instructions in the second post on how to downgrade your PSP.
Checking your PSP Motherboard Model
This information is only needed if you need to use the 2.71 or 2.80 downgraders. The Downgraders for 3.03 and higher can automatically detect your 'PSP Motherboard' version.
1. Open the UMD Door and face the screen away from you. 2. Look in the top right corner of the UMD Door. 3. If there is IC1003 written in gold on the top right then you have either a TA-082 or TA-086 PSP. If there is no gold writing then you have a 'TA-079' PSP.
You will need to use the 'Pandora Battery' to install custom firmware onto your PSP. You will need to find someone with a PSP that can run homebrew programs to convert the battery for you. You can find the guide on making the Pandora Battery / Memory stick here -> http://www.pspiso.com/showthread.php?t=140243
If you have Firmware 3.50:
Downgrade from 3.50 to 1.50
Install Custom Firmware
If you have Firmware 3.10, 3.11, 3.30 or 3.40
Update your Firmware to 3.11 or 3.50
Downgrade from 3.11 or 3.50 to 1.50
Install Custom Firmware
If you have Firmware 3.03:
Downgrade from 3.03 to 1.50
Install Custom Firmware
If you have Firmware 2.81, 2.82, 3.00, 3.01 or 3.02:
Upgrading Instructions: 1. Download the firmware upgrade EBOOT to your hard drive, right click the downloaded file and choose "extract to here" (You will need Winrar installed to 'extract' the files, there is a download link at the very top of this topic) 2. Plug in your PSP to your computer using a USB cable. 3. Select USB Connection from the 'settings' menu in the XMB 4. Open the Drive letter your computer assigns to your PSP (e.g E:\) 5. Open the "PSP" folder, then open the "GAME" folder. 6. Make a folder called "UPDATE" and make sure it is in caps. 7. Copy the firmware updateEBOOT file from your hard-drive into the "UPDATE" folder on your PSP. 8. Close the USB Connection using your PSP (press 'O') and disconnect the USB Cable from your PSP and computer. 9. Make sure you have a full battery and plug in the AC Adaptor to your PSP. 10. Go to the memory stick under "Game" on your PSP and you should see the 'PSP Firmware update'. 11. Highlight the firmware update and press 'start' to start the update. 12. Now follow the on-screen instructions, it is fairly simple to install. 13. Once the update has finished you may need to restart your PSP. 14. Now go to Settings > System Settings > System Information. You will see that the System Software has been updated.
Now you have successfully upgraded your PSP firmware.
Note: Your virus scanner may give a 'false' alert about a PSP.Brick virus or trojan in one of the TIFF files. Before the 2.00 downgrader was released there was a 'trojan' being spread that bricked PSPs when run. It bricked the PSP by writing to the flash memory and erasing some important system files need to start the PSP. The 2.00 downgrader 'writes' to the flash memory using a similar method so the anti-virus program thinks its the PSP Brick Trojan. You can upgrade to Firmware 2.71 and use the 2.71 downgrader as an alternate way to downgrade if you want.
Downgrading Instructions: 1. Transfer any important data from your memory stick to your computer and then format the memory stick using your PSP, its in the 'Settings -> System settings' menu. Note: Formatting will erase all data from the memory stick.
2. Connect your PSP to your computer using a USB cable and make a USB Connection.
3. Right click the RAR file you downloaded earlier and choose 'Extract files...' from the menu and a new window will open. If you don't have 'extract files...' on the menu then you don't have winrar installed. (Download link at the very top of this topic)
Select My Computer and then select the drive letter of your PSP and click "extract" (My PSP memory stick drive letter is Removeable Disk (E:) but it might be a different letter on your computer)
Winrar will then unpack the files to your PSP Memory stick, this may take a minute or so.
Once its finished unpacking the files, Double click the 'Safely Remove Hardware' icon near the clock Select the 'Sony PSP USB Device' and click 'stop', on the next window click 'Sony PSP USB Device' and click 'OK' You should get the message 'This device can be safely removed from your computer', Click OK to this message.
4. Close the USB connection on your PSP (press 'O') and unplug the USB cable from your computer and your PSP.
5. Plug in AC adaptor and Open the 'Photo' Menu. This will launch the downgrader. The downgrader will show some numbers and letters on the top of the screen, this means the downgrade worked. Wait for one minute then turn off your PSP by holding the power button up for 4 seconds until it turns off.
6. Turn on your psp and go to the game menu and launch the 1.50 update boot. 7. Follow the instructions on updating to 1.50. When the update reaches 99% it will show an error "The update failed... (ffffffff)" This is normal, just hold the power switch up for 4 seconds until your PSP fully turns off.
8. Turn your PSP back on. You will get a corrupt settings error with a blue background. Just press the "O" button and your PSP will restart with repaired settings. your PSP should then go through the setup process again. (set date / time etc)
9. Check the "System Settings > System Information", you should have "Version 1.50" 10. Format your memory stick using your PSP after you've done the setup.
Select My Computer and then slect the drive letter of your PSP and click "extract" (My PSP memory stick drive letter is Removeable Disk (E:) but it might be a different letter on your computer)

4. Close the USB connection on your PSP (press 'O') and unplug the USB cable from your computer and your PSP.
5. Turn off your PSP by holding the power button for 4 seconds then turn it back on. (This will give your PSP a 'clean boot' so 'HEN' will have a better chance of loading in step 6.)
6. In the XMB of your PSP go to the Photo menu then open the HEND folder.
Note: It may take a few tries to get HEND to load, the TIFF exploit doesn't load all the time. If you have a 'custom wallpaper', try setting one as it may increase the chances of HEND loading. See the 'Customize your PSPs Background Picture section for instructions on setting a custom wallpaper. If your PSP freezes, restart your PSP and try loading HEND again.
If HEND successfully loaded, you will see a blue screen and then either: Red: The files couldn't be written to the flash, you will need to keep trying as it doesn't work all the time... Green: The files were written successfully, The PSP will restart and you can go to the next step.
If you want to check if HEND is loaded, check your 'system firmware version', it should read 2.71-HEND if HEND is loaded.
7. Run the 'TA-082_86_Enabler' from the game > memory stick menu if you have a TA-082 /TA-086 PSP. The program will detect if your PSP is a TA-082 or TA-086 and will patch it to run 1.50 if its needed. If you are sure that your PSP is definitely a TA-079 then you won't need to run this and can skip to the next step. If you are unsure, check the top of the post, under the 'Checking your PSP Motherboard Model' section
Note: If you have a TA-082 or TA-086 and don't run the 'Enabler' then you will brick your PSP when downgrading in step 8.
8. Run the 'PSP Update ver X.YZ' from 'Game' > 'Memory Stick' to start the downgrader. 9. The rest of the steps are pretty simple, follow the on-screen instructions.
10. When you turn your PSP back on you will get a corrupt settings error with a blue background. Just press the "O" button and your PSP will restart with repaired settings. your PSP should then go through the setup process again. (set date / time etc)
If the psp screen stays black when you turn on your PSP, Try pressing the 'screen brightness' button near the start / select buttons. For some unknown reason the screen might get put in the 'off' position after the downgrade on some PSPs. I'm not sure why that happens, but pressing the 'screen brightness' button seems to fix it.
11. Format your memory stick using your PSP after you've done the setup.
Downgrading Instructions: 1. Transfer any important data from your memory stick to your computer and then format the memory stick using your PSP, its in the 'Settings -> System settings' menu. Note: Formatting will erase all data from the memory stick.
